I was initially shocked at the high rating as the first 6 or so chapters were boring and unpleasant. After coming back to Novel Updates and seeing the tag "unreliable narrator", I realized that a lot of the unpleasantness of the MC is feigned (though some still seems sincere or at least annoying to the point of always poking at boundaries and vulnerabilities). By around the 8th chapter after the starting setup, the humor of the story and characters began and it improved drastically.I read one review that claimed none of the characters from the Abyss stick around and that worried me for a while, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't even a single chapter without at least one of the characters from the Abyss and all of the main characters weave in and out as the story progresses.The only annoying foible I encountered while reading is the fairly regular emphasis on the MC enjoying sleeping in and being rudely woken up. Like, by the dozenth chapter starting with five paragraphs heralding the bliss that is sleep with the MC ignoring the increasingly frantic attempts to wake him... it just seems like that joke should have run its course. But yeah, the MC chooses laziness and leaving things to others whenever possible.You never really get to see the MC be OP (at least not as of chapter 201), but he does pull off some pretty satisfying cons and plans along the way (and some that were a touch more forced or at least a little less satisfying).Anyway, I wish more was translated. I look forward to more and I imagine even re-reading the early chapters will be less annoying knowing what I know now. I'd like if the MC was a little more affectionate but I can totally understand if others like him pretending not to care (at least as long as we're just talking about friendships. If he gets into loving relationships and still acts like he doesn't care I'd be pretty disappointed).
