Worth it.

There's a reason why MC is the way he is and why the world is that why but the author doesn't hand it to you on a platter. A lot of novels will have a flashback or the narration will tell you fairly early on but for this one? Like the characters the MC meets you can recognize that *something* is wrong. but you can't tell exactly.

And at the same time the MC does things that can't help but make you like him. He says he doesn't care and does cold things but if you take a step back and look... he very very clearly does Care. And you don't find the reason for his behaviour early on which is why people thought the story was shallow and boring and left.

Nah.

Just look at the chapter count and enjoy the ride. Because when you find out everything, you're in so deep that the reveal actually hits hard, instead of just generic angst. The start of the novel is not fast paced, and eventually MC's knowledge runs out and there were things he didn't know either. After all, he just read a novel so it can't actually contain all the intricacies of an actual world.

The plot build-up is great, the clues are All There, the cast is big but they all have depth, it's impossible to not find at least one person you vibe with, and the stakes are high.

It's a long long novel so just enjoy the ride okay?
