I really liked this.

I mean it.

Damn.

Lately I've had a really hard time getting hooked on a book and most of the qt books I've given up on the last or second to last arc, but this time I was so into it that after reading all the arcs I was at a loss: "how so? The end? Already? But I'm not full!.."

I love heartless MC. I had it. I love goal-oriented MC. I had it. I love suffering MC. I had it. I love slag gong's ab*se. I had it. I love wife chase through crematorium. I had it and much more.

This is not a story about healing and all-conquering love between a big boss yandere and an innocent/flirtatious Mary Sue, this is a story of a person who climbed out of hell to take back those who pushed him down. He is broken, he is fallen, he is human. But he is still bright and loved by his family and the stranger who was betrayed and k*lled by him so many times.

And oh my god I was in ecstasy from MC. He said - he did. There was no love-related change of heart, which is often shove. You know that trope when MC sees a changed/repentant/pathetic/with a sad past red flag and in a wink is like: "oh yeah baby you are exactly what I need, I will forget all the sh*t you put in my mouth, swallow and run to lick your ass further. And I will also forget my original goal, because <3 the power of love <3 is with me now"

And the very fact that MC had character development. Very beautiful, tragic, painful, with moments of mental breakdown, but there was development and it did not come from a fairy-tale miraculous love. In my experience as a reader, this is a very rare and valuable look at the character's path.

And soooo... This reveals two things to me that didn't fully satisfy me.

First, I didn't get enough of ml's development. We've seen a lot in the reincarnations, but in the end in the original world, his thoughts and feelings were almost a mystery. While mc's state was often directly and indirectly compared to the time before his punishment and had ups and downs, ML seemed to have already completed a 300-year course of psychotherapy, worked through his traumas and prepared for a future life together. BUT it wasn't shown for us! Not in any bit!! (My list of a few 'how did he?' is below, mb smn could find it as a spoiler) Spoiler

How did his main body collect information from reincarnations? How did his feelings develop? How did he deal with them knowing that MC was lying for the sake of the mission? How did he deal with the knowledge that he was the r*pist and the cause of his lover's trauma?

How how how?... So many questions, but no answers.

Second, the development of their feelings was too awkward. MC very rarely showed any genuine warmth towards ml. Almost always either indifference or disgust or act. The only pure connection between them that MC treated differently was in the 'big star' arc about the apocalypse. It was the only shared, bright and tangible memory between the k*ller + traitor + victim and the victim + r*pist + ab*ser. They are both guilty, they are both traumatized. And the cunning author played this only possible card for them through the cunning ml, who brought it into the real world from that reincarnation. But god knows I hate the trope of using it to tie a lover to you. And the fact that mc's family also drove them crazy pisses me off, they knew how much MC suffered from him. I have no complaints about ML "secretly" showing off his wounds to MC, this is a decent crematorium in pursuit of a wife.

So yes, I would like either for their relationship to end in a bittersweet redemption of two people who found hell and heaven in each other, or for them to break up after revenge, or for them to slowly, without pressure on MC, learn to heal themselves and each other.

In conclusion, I am delighted, it was interesting, fresh, bright, delicious and wonderful. I knew what I was going for, and I got what I expected. There are little things that I see differently, but they do not affect the overall impression of the book.
