Even though he should have one of the greatest magic capacity and power of all beeings, it's never properly shown. The only thing that happens is a running gag of afraid mages.
His power level is artificially kept on low A-rank level. Based on his magic it should be top level beyond S-rank. The scheme is: He doesn't use fire magic, because it will destroy the magic stone for the upgrade of his growing weapon / magic beast. But then again he never trys to buy magic stones from other people.
It's never stated, how exactly he can grow stronger. Till now it seems, the only strength increase will happen through his growing weapon / magic beast and new equipment.
The magic system is vague, at the beginning it's stated he has only fire aptitude. But at some point he uses mixed magic of holy + fire.
At the beginning it's shown his griffon likes treasure, afterwards never again.
There is only one deus ex machina moment, with a unclear ending of the cliche villain (escape).
