This is a character-driven story by a skilled author. It's very entertaining, although to fully enjoy the story you must tolerate the harem-building with a somewhat dense MC. I would say that the MC and the plot are the main weaknesses to the novel. If not for those, the novel would be simply incredible. In short, the 'plot' is that the MC used to be a "bad guy" and was reincarnated back into his younger self. He wants to defeat his former master while being a good guy, this time around. The story takes you to different events disconnectedly, gathering new waifus like trophies everytime while reporting on the MC's and cast's increased strength. The execution is good, so it probably won't influence your enjoyment, but it prevents the novel from reaching excellence. There is little at stake during the event, except the vague threat of the demons mentioned sometimes. There is little to no personal stake for the characters either with one exception (during the Mount Hua arc).As for the MC, he is... inconsistent? Chaotic? He is a bit all over the place. One of his repeated desires is avoiding certain characters (half the time it's the waifus, who he banged in his former life though it's dubious with how dense and as*xual he is). Of course, he fails every time because of... plot? Comedic relief? Irrationality and inaction? It's hard to understand the MC when all it takes to solving a 'problem' is literally communication.
