The story should be called A Regressor's Tale of Depression.

Spoiler

Don't get me wrong, I've highly enjoyed the story - up to a certain point. This novel becomes increasingly frustrating and depressing the more it goes on. I'm okay with that, but there is no f*cking break. It's a continuous cycle of sadness.

Every time the protagonist feels a iota of happiness in one of his dozens of depressing cycles, it's quickly taken away. Major character deaths happen in every cycle. You can't f*cking get attached to someone because in the next cycle the relationship dynamic changes.

So even though those characters are alive in the new time-line, they're not the same characters that you got to know the first time round.

While reading the breaking of relationships, Eun Hyun's last moments in each cycle, and his enlightenment before/after death is actually beautiful, it still leaves me with a lingering bitterness. And because we don't know when he'll get rid of his time loop ability, I can't find myself actually caring for each cycle he goes through, knowing that the relationships he forms will end up meaningless by the end of it.

The main idea behind this story is not cultivation, it's Eun Hyun's suffering. And there is no immediate payoff.

Also, I felt like it was too early for him to ascend to the upper realm. Makes no sense. He has yet to reach an appropriate cultivation realm, and now he's in a place where he can easily get snuffed by randoms.

And considering how many years/lifetimes it takes him to make a breakthrough, I can see this novel spanning thousands of chapters.

Spoiler

Oh, his ascension marks a checkpoint in his time loop ability, meaning that every time he dies, he re awakens in the upper realm, not in the lower one like in the previous iterations.

Also, there is no harem up to where I've left off, I don't know what the other reviewers have been reading so far.

Spoiler

His main love interest gets killed off in one of the time lines right before he confesses to her.

In the next cycle, after the MC manages to avenge her, he decides not to pursue a relationship with her because to him they're not the same person. Fair enough.

However the end of that particular scene is open ended with a clear hint that she might come back in one of his future cycles.

The other love interest is one of the mc's ex colleagues which has been hinted to be crushing on him in one of the earlier chapter. This has been confirmed when he got to the upper realm and spent some time with her.

Romance isn't a clear focus of the story. And I can pretty much see the protagonist never getting in a relationship again because of how painful it is to have that person not remember you in the next cycle. [collapse]

Whether thats gonna change with future chapters, I don't know.

Overall it's not bad. A great start, but gets depressingly repetitive. Good translation. Fast translation. I'll keep an eye on this, but I'm unsure if I'll ever pick it up again.
