Saw a clip of the anime and thought I'd give it a try. So far (c12) it's that anime convention of the protagonist being kidnapped and ab*sed to the extent of trauma but he's supposed to persevere through the absurd abusive behavior and be better for being ab*sed.I really hate this trope but I hope it doesn't last too much longer and improves from there.Edit (c120) : It's OK. It just leaves me frustrated though. Even though I like the characters and some of the humor, the plot/world-building and Usato's behavior just is kinda annoying. I thought I'd at least catch up all the wayback machine chapters, but I don't think I'm continuing after the end of volume 5. Usato is a combination of being impotent and yet willing to insert himself tepidly with complete arrogance that I struggle with. That personality going to the beast people country next volume with extreme racism foreshadowed makes me just very unwilling to see how it gets dragged across the finish line.
