Quick answer - the story takes place at the time... in all times. Yep.I literally was confused about the timeline, at the beginning author mentioned that Ace already ate his devil fruit, even garp mentioned something like that which made me think that it's about 2 years before the start of the story. But then a bombshell came out out of nowhere and MC finds a devil fruit called gomu gomu no mi... (~40 chapter) In the original Luffy eats his devil fruit when he is 7 (10 years before the story, still didn't happen) and now he joined marine academy with smoker and hina. (No official year, but around 14 years before the story) Edit: chap 80f*ck IT, the author is a f*cking moron, it seems that all the above is true. Timeline is messed up. Warlords of the sea exist and don't exist at the same time, trainees in hq are basically teens when luffy will start his journey (hina/smoker/ain etc.) When MC comes to one piece Hina is 17. When the story starts she should be 32 (she will remain as a teen leutainant I guess...) Even if authors statement was true (that ace was already a pirate, for some reason author keeps on reminding the readers about that), MC already spend 3 years training, but still no Luffy. (Luffy appears 2 years after ace) How tf can you mess up so badly!!!
