when I read this novel years ago I loved it so much, especially the first arc, so when a translator finally picked up this novel again I jumped with joy—UNTIL I REALIZED HOW MISOGYNISTIC THIS NOVEL IS 😐😐

another review mentioned how the MC and the white lotus do the same thing but the MC is praised while the white lotus is condemned. WELL for some reason the author can't keep track of what they write so THE MC IS ALSO CONTRADICTORY TO HIMSELF 💀

what'll happen is they'll write the MC doing A, B, and C in one chapter, and then in another chapter have the MC condemn A, B, and C...

at the end of arc 3, he purchased some vampiric bloodlines to become half vampire. then in arc 4 he becomes a shadow guard. and at the beginning, he 'only killed when necessary' but then after a few months of adjustment he starts killing to upgrade his vampiric bloodline and indulge in his thirst for blood.

switch to a later arc, and the MC is condemning some demons for doing the exact same thing:

BUT NOT JUST THE MC IS CONTRADICTORY. EVEN THE ML GETS HYPOCRITICAL AS HELL

in one arc, 'Yan Yu's (ml) mother escaped the fate of being auctioned off because she was the legitimate wife of the former patriarch (ml's father). However, the former patriarch didn't treat her well either. and the language that they use to describe women is CONSTANTLY DEGRADING THEM. like nobody is a bigger hater on women than the author. EVERYTHING women do in this novel is must be brainless, driven by jealousy, and villainous

the reason I read all the way to arc 5 was cus all the arcs start off with interesting concepts, but they always disappoint me the more I read

although I said in the beginning how much I loved the first arc, it's honestly not good either. I loved it for how vague and simple the writing was, it felt kind of like how I imagined stories up in my head. but now after 5 whole arcs I can confidently say that it's not a style of the author, it's just bad writing.
