So glad this is finally getting a translation. This is a very good book by this author, I'd say just as good as Accidentally Married a Man Full of Vinegar, her other work. This author is very adept at writing gradual romance, down to earth human interactions and dialogue, and charming yet human characters. This and the other novel are basically her peak writing to me. Even if you don't feel like waiting for the translation to finish, this novel can be easily MTL'd because the language used is pretty clear and simple, but delicate and warm in its simplicity and subtlety. Now that I'm done persuading I'll talk about the plot, characters, romance etc in detail below. I read this a while ago and can't remember everything but will give as much detail as possible. There will be spoilers. The story is set in college. MC and ML are both school heartthrobs, but have never had any interactions and dont know each other well. Their first meeting is simple, while waiting in line for a drink MC pays for ML drinks and then later they exchange numbers. Then we have various interactions that bring them closer and the romance heats up. ML is cool, casual, and friendly. His male friends admire him and women like him. But he has pure straight man thinking that makes him not suceptible to things like romance and love. The summary makes him seem like a homophobe, but hes not, he just had a bad incident which made him uncomfortable and that's why, he has no discrimination.MC is more cold, but that's just looks, he's actually quite gentle and a little shy, with some small thoughts. And refreshingly he is fully aware he is gay and there is no s*xual orientation crisis on his part. Also, this is not a spoiler since it's revealed quickly like first couple chapters but MC has a secret crush on the ML. This crush of MC is basically what leads them to meet and dictates their further interactions, with MC making secret attempts to get close to ML, at least to be friends. Honestly it's the story of cute gay boy silently crushing and making small plays to chase after a straight guy. And a straight guy who's honesty not that straight and is moved fairly quickly, but keeps being flirtatious to both MC and readers without realizing. It's simple, but it's all in the details guys! This author writes ambiguity so well I was swooning so bad! There are multiple cute points that make the characters down to earth. The MC seems cold but has a mole on his nose that becomes obvious when he smiles, which gives him contrast. He is indifferent to others, but gets shy and blushes around the ML. He is also very particular about the way he dresses, he even wears fake glasses "just because they look good". He is very cute and has a hint of temper, but is otherwise a very good boy. Really adorable! He is moved by ML, but he is aware ML is straight and tries not to get his hopes up. But ML is just too tempting! ML here is kind of contradictory lol just like the summary and title. On the one hand, he is very interested in MC, thinks he is cute, goes out of his way for him, makes exceptions for him, and it even seems like ML is almost chasing him. But ML is like he lacks that romance braincell, he's really like a straight man. Plus he doesn't know MC is gay and only thinks of friendship. Even though personally I feel like he had love or at least like at first sight for MC, he himself doesn't realize it and makes multiple excuses in his head for his behavior lol. This makes his interaction with MC very ambiguous and he is unintentionally flirtatious. I completely understand why MC couldn't resist and was frustrated, ML is indeed unknowingly charming and caring!Thankfully ML doesn't drag on too much and once he discovers his feelings and finds out MC is gay, he begins his chase! That's right they don't get together immediately, ML says he wants to chase MC and MC wants to experience being chased. So then we have another cute segment. After that they finally get together and they are lovely, sexy, and adorable. It is well worth the wait and slow burn.As for plot, this novel, like the authors other novels, is character driven. I can't remember much plot tbh. But it was never boring! The MC and ML have amazing chemistry before and after becoming a couple. They also have attractive personalities. I feel if you like that before we get together ambiguous stage, you will like this alot. The author writes this type of thing so good I've honestly rarely seen anyone write essentially slice of life romance as good as her. I couldn't stop reading I was very invested in their relationship.Lastly, the tags say shou is the protagonist but I'd say the view point is pretty evenly distributed between shou and Gong, and ML isn't someone who we can't read or know his thoughts we are well aware of his thought process and feelings as they progress so even though this is a secret love novel it's never really sad or depressing. Plus they're each other's first love so no exes or anything. It's just a great, simple romance that immerses you and well worth a read. A solid 5.
