I am going to compare this to The Academy’s Weakest Became A Demon-Limited Hunter a lot because this novel just feels like a worse version of it. Both novels have the MC transmigrate into a game that's deemed impossible to clear, both set in the academy, both MC are mob characters that have a limiting cheat ability. However, what Demon-Limited Hunter infinitely better than this novel is the execution. Let me give some examples:
- The motivation of the MC:
- In Demon-Limited Hunter, he's there to stop the Evil God or the world will end. The novel is split into arcs that mirrors the chapters in the game. MC explains what/who the threats are and we see how he uses his game knowledge to get stronger and face the challenges. It's straight forward, easy to read and enjoyable.
- In this novel it's never quite explain what the threat is. The MC just said that Aster is the MC of this world and that's it. We never get a clear understanding of the MC's motivation, is he trying to save the world? Is he trying to survive? The structure of the novel is all over the place and whatever plans the MC has, it just gets tossed aside in favor of him having to react to the world.
- The MC:
- In Demon-Limited Hunter, the MC is the man with the plan. He knows what he needs to do, and he does it. Sure sometimes things deviate and change but it is acceptable as he is interacting and changing the world. His power-ups feels earned because he actively goes after them.
- In this novel, the MC feels like he is just thrown around and reacting the world around him. Even though he's suppose to be a veteran of the game. One of his main power-up in the early part of the novel - the rune, he earns by accident since he didn't even intend on going into the dungeon to get it. BTW that rune is crucial the MC btw and he didn't even know it existed. There are many instances like that in the novel and in every battle, he just has dog-sh*t luck where he somehow stumbles on power-ups just right to survive his next encounter.
