I just completed the 4th arcs and will wait until the story is completely translated to continue.

This is the recap of the first 4 arcs for those who are hesitating to read this novel.

Premise - The MC is a demonic cultivator who failed to ascend and decided to enjoy life in different worlds instead. She would make contracts with souls that just passed away in order to use their body while fulfilling their last wishes. So there is no system or plot knowledge to help her, but she's so OP just because she's a cultivator who could manipulate spiritual energy.

Main Character - The MC can be a bit too much, too extra, for many's liking. She is the epitome of the strong independent female character. And she's also wayyy too OP. Her spiritual energy was used like magic that can help her do just about anything. It's sometimes too much of a cheat that I don't feel the MC "earned" anything herself. She's also pretty apathetic to the people and the world around here that it can come off as calculative (and in many cases, it is calculative on her part.)

Love Line - There are a lot of criticisms towards the MC's attitude in love but I stand by her 100%. She's very clear cut that she doesn't need a romantic partner and doesn't mind staying single in any worlds. And she's also very transparent on what she wants for a partner, but she never forces or even coerces anyone to follow her will. So I don't see a problem that she laid her cards on the table and let all the MLs know what they're getting themselves into. In fact, she often encourages those MLs to find a more suitable partner as she cannot be what they hope for. I like her attitude a lot. I think it's very similar to the ideology of a lot of modern women who prefer to stay single rather than lowering their standards. It's quite a refreshing take.

Now, moving on to the plots...

There are some spoilers here, so read at your own risk.

Spoiler

World 1 - FL is an heiress whose fiance cheated on her with her own best friend. It's a classic revenge story where the FL break things off with scumbag fiance and best friend and find new blessings in life. I particularly love the FL's parents in this arc. They are lovely couple.

It's a very good start for the first arc though I find the later half to be a bit lengthy. It lasts to around 70 chapters but it could have cut down to 40ish to make the story more refined. (The chapters were split in translation so I'm not sure how many chapters there are originally.)

World 2 - FL is a former idol who left her career to marry a scumbag millionaire; turn out the guy just treated her as a substitute since she looked a lot like his first love. When his first love came back, he immediately divorced her and even tried to block her from working in the entertainment industry. But of course, the FL is so OP she won back everything and did everything right so much so that she's just a marry sue. It became really cringey really fast.

This arc is the one I HATE and even considered dropping since it just never ends. Just like any other showbiz novel, we see a lot of netizen comments but it just go on and on and on. The story would progress very slowly since the author tend to focus on these comments rather than the plot itself. It's like the FL did one small thing, followed by hater comments, followed by fan comments, followed by some actions taken by some parties, then the FL did another thing -- it kept going in circles like that at one point I just skimmed read about 10 chapters in 10 minutes.

It went on for over 100 chapters and it didn't feel satisfying to read. I wished it would have ended way sooner.

World 3 - It's ancient world. FL is an abandoned imperial concubine who was betrayed by her own maid and casted aside to die. The emperor was an inept who only knew to have fun so there was already a rebellion ongoing. FL somehow saved a prince - uncle of emperor - and the two were wedded by the emperor as a kind of humiliation towards the prince. But they become such a power couple that in the end, take over the throne.

I love the FL's staying true to her values in this arc. She wanted to live free and travel around the world, which she wouldn't be able to do as an empress. So she made it clear to the prince uncle that she would help him seize the throne but wouldn't stay with him. I like their back and forth so much, it perfectly displayed the opposing views of people from opposite s*x and different era. I love the ending of this arc. The prince was an exemplary ML even though they didn't end up happily ever after.

World 4 - FL is an online novel writer who was falsely accused of plagiarizing a famous author. She also had a leeching family who favors son over daughter but still expects the daughter to raise the son. On top of that, she had a health issue that resulted in her being hospitalized. The FL had to solve one problem at a time with the assistance of two male authors who happened to be her neighbors.

Compared to the previous worlds, this arc is much more mature. It also discussed a lot of interesting social issues such as plagiarism, feminism, cyber-bullying and doxxing, different family dynamics, sibling parents, etc. We also see some of the very first platonic male-female interactions, though it didn't last long xD. Since there are 2 guys, at first I thought ML would be the strong and silent one per the usual trope, but it ended up being the golden retriever guy who is chatty and clingy - you know, the usual hype guy. It's a very refreshing take that I didn't see coming but loving it a lot. I think he fits her type perfectly since she didn't want to bend to the wills of others but he's such a puppy who will follow his owner anywhere. I also like it that both guys developed feelings for her when she was not conventionally attractive - plus-sized, short hair, and overall unhealthy.

My only criticism for this arc is that it feels very much a self-insert of the author. There were still cringey parts that I hope the author could tone down for future chapters.

[collapse]

TL;DR

    • 1st world was a decent start
    • 2nd was terrible, badly written, skip if you want
    • 3rd was a very nice comeback from the author
    • 4th was great, very mature, worth all the bs I had to put up for previous worlds
That's all for the first 4 arcs. I'll make another review when I finish reading everything.
