I was not planning on writing a review nor did I want to rate at first, after all, I'm dropping this book at chapter 3 but from what I've seen this novel is wholly undeserving of its 4+ stars rating.

The leads don't seem to have too much personality beyond the usual cardboard settings and waxing about the beauty of their most mundane features in typical CN writer fashion does not add. I also have to agree with another reviewer that the entire thing is very absurd from the start: You haven't seen your "great love" in 6 years but the first thing you do, instead of taking a good look, is to dunk the entire room in darkness to focus on bedsports... Plus, the MC could have uttered "I'm not Shen Li" before the pheromone bomb...

The following about the ML might sound a bit redundant but I'd just like to explain my issues with the main characters. So, ML is supposed to be in Love, with capital L, but doesn't even care about his beloved at their first meeting after years to exhange a couple of words or take a look. Instead he directly presses the other person into bed, only caring about his own ego and desires of finally possessing the white moonlight -- honestly, a one-time off hooker gets more care than this, even if it's only to agree on the details of the follow up act.

The MC is dressed up with adjectives like always steady and professional, however, with how the text is written they are just excuses to me to make the MC into a doormat. One moment he might be upset or dissatisfied with something, only to bring out the earlier mentioned adjectives and then MC's feelings will be buried under and he'll be back to "calm" to pander to the author's whims.

Spoiler
    • MC basically gets date r*ped by the ML, but hey, he is always steady about the ups and downs of life so he leaves without saying anything about the misunderstanding to suffer the humiliation in silence. All the more so at their next accidental meeting, where ML comes bragging about banging "Shen Li" and brandishes MC's engagement ring and MC still doesn't say a thing.
    • MC clearly refused a contract for a drama because of the bad reputation of the female co-star before, then he is forced to take it by the company and once more, under the veneer of professionalism, he just takes it without opposition. Okay, this one is a bit realistic since it is workplace pressure but coupled with the former it just reinforces the fact that MC will take whatever is done to him.
    • Due to ML's goading the MC accidentally causes injury to the former and the man would also need caretaking for a few days. Instead of letting the assistant do it, who is paid to do that by the way, MC lets himself be pressured into caring for the ML...
      [collapse]
I don't mind tropes, after all, I'm guilty of reading some brainless stuff from time to time like any other person, but I prefer some personality to my characters and for the story to not be a straight up receipe for an abusive relationship. It might not happen as I only read 2 and half chapters, but so far everything seemed to indicate the MC would be smoothered by the author.
