I think what bothered me about this story is that the author was forcing themselves to write a plot they're not particularly interested in. The setting and the world are window-dressing. The author's real passion, and it really shows in their excited and excessive writing, is when the two MCs meet and interact.Problem for me, is that I find one character's behavior completely baffling, and the other vexing to the point of wishing they would walk off the stage and never return.So, now I'm reading a story where the author seems really excited about writing these interactions and a relationship with a character I can't stand, and I'm like... what is even the point of reading? Then I got to the poison scene and I just straight gave up.
