The father couldn't get over his wife death; the brothers were not taught that it wasn't their sister's fault and that she's the last present of their mother; the lover couldn't see what she was hidding and missed the clues; the emperor didn't battle enough to avoid their marriage and couldn't love his wife.
Maybe the lover is the only one who actually has nearly no-choice. She loves the emperor but has to share, she's bullied because it can't be a perfect three-party relationship (unexpected huh!). Maybe she shouldn't have followed on the bet but let the Emperor divorces his wife or should have used a not-deadly way... After all how can you be happy after such a bet (even if the Emperor was unaware, I doubt she could have lived with herself)
And she, she lets go of her true love, inserts herself in a love relationship, and tried to be loved by her family in the worst way possible. All of those were the last straw that push her to make a last bet and quit her life
[collapse]I like that they are all imperfect. The tragedy is that they can never repare the situation, in a way it was her last desperate and "villainous" action. Desperate because she might have given them a last chance to help and love her. Villainous because (some more than the other) have to live on with the abyss she left. I would love an alternate version were one of them come to her help (maybe in the side stories?).
