How to Survive as the Academy’s Villain Chapter 7 Discussion

I don't usually rate novels this early, but the author has spent the entire time of this novel so far doing nothing but showing in great detail how awful the protagonist is being treated and how he isn't accepted anywhere, then his shelter, food, and clothing are secured in about two sentences.

The protagonist himself is a painfully boring and half-hearted character so far, the setting is awful using the excuse that "the author" had poor writing, but... there's only one author here... And none of the other characters introduced seem interesting or fun. It wears on me to read a story where the bad stuff gets focused and the good stuff is glossed over...
