This story has some unique traits that you don't see anywhere else.

You may think this is a modern villainess otome game story, but in the first place, this is not an isekai. The protagonist dies and revives a few years later in the same world. The protagonist himself was confused, as he didn't knew he had died, and learned later, seeking for information on his old friends, about his death.

We then go through a relatively cliche reformed villainess story where everyone thinks she is still the crazy one from the past, and few ones notice that she has changed, so her circle of friends improves slowly.

The girl is a daughter from one of the "twelve families", in this alternate Japan, there are 12 families who have a lot of affluence and influence all sorts of stuff in the country, however, due to her previous actions, she was banished from the house, and then she took her own life, which somehow led to the protagonist taking over.

Now, although I mentioned many cliches, I will start pointing out the unique aspects.

Family matters are weird, but well, "fantastically weird".

Spoiler

As we learn from her mother later, children of her family are born with a really annoying quirk. Her father for example was a mothercon, her younger twin siblings are siscons, and the old Kotone was an extreme fathercon, so all she did was likely trying to get her father's attention, which she failed to do so. Different quirks also exist among the other 12 families. So Kotone's mother believes that Kotone "has been cured".

Being in the same world means also having connections with the past.

Spoiler

The protagonist previous life had his own turbulent life, with a terrible mother who abandoned him, so he ended up adopted by his aunt, acting as his step-mother, but with whom he loves and respects very much. He absolutely hates his biological mother. The music band he was part of with his friends, including the childhood friend that was like a sister to him seems to have gotten more famous, yet never replaced anyone into his former position. His former classmates were a bunch of good people but weirdos. And yes, these people join the story due either from finding out the truth through Kotone's behavior, or because she essentially reveals herself.

So we have 2 different levels of connections.

Since it's not a game world, there is no knowing the future, and the MC has to be careful on what he is going to do, he also doesn't know why this body replacement happened, and is taking proper care of Kotone's body, not knowing if one day she will return, or if he will live for the rest of her life in this body.

Too bad though, there are not many strong yuri elements. Kotone is considered very attractive even by females, and there are many women close to her, some who really admire her and want to get really close, but the MC avoids all romantic and any romantic advances, mostly due to disinterest. There are not many of the cliches of male in female body embarrassment, and at the same time, she doesn't try to be very feminine, so she avoids skirts or makeup, giving her a "refined" tomboyish atmosphere.

This story however is not a mere slice of life, as there are objectives, although they take time to be defined, and that is: revenge against MC's original mother (who was found to be in a surprising position) and Kotone's father.
