As stated, I read the manga of this novel, so there might be some slight differences, but I just wanted to defend this novel/manga.Is it a masterpiece? No, it's not, but it's not bad either, a solid 4 if I had to say. The MC isn't 1-dimensional, nor is he 2-dimensional. He has his own motivations and beliefs outside of magic, and sometimes does things he doesn't neccesarily need to. Even if he says it's to "Observe and further my magic", there are other, better ways, than the one he chose.Also, the side characters aren't too bad, either, though they do follow a lot of clichés.Solid 4/5
