Licht, the little sickly prince is saved/taken captive by the military commander Fernand, who razed Licht's small country's capital and killed most people in the royal castle but Licht. This is implied in the beginnign, no spoiler her, just a premise. The story develops slowly but surely, it's sweet like molasses but it has a strongly dark undertone in Licht's memories of ab*se and neglect, which have led to his complete and utter naivety towards any wordly thing, from food to elements to emotions. The undertone is also prominent in Fernand's thoughts, which fall in line with the usual yandere-type male lead obsession. It's a bit better than a dark romance in my opinion because Fernand does have Licht's psycho-physical health in mind when he does things like letting Licht try out all sorts of food, experience outside etc. But I don't like the fact that he doesn't wait for Licht to understand the world more and grow into himself more before getting frisky.Overall, it's a very good, brief read for dark-ish romance lovers.
