It's a subversion of the harem romcom genre. As is common in subversions (for other examples see Neon Genesis Evangelion (mecha genre), Puella Magi Madoka Magica (magical girl genre) or Doki Doki Literature Club (also harem romcom)), the normal roles and the characters that inhabit them are often somehow corrupted and twisted, and standard hero-villain relationships are turned upside down and problematized in various ways. Very enjoyable read if you are familiar with the common tropes of the genre, in my opinion.
