A satisfying read if you enjoy intense pining.It's basically the emotional torment of Xie Shiye and his decade long crush/love on Fu Xu as they work together for the first time after Fu Xu left the entertainment field. It's delightful in a painful way to see how Xie Shiye's emotions are so attuned to Fu Xu, the joy of being able to interact with his crush, the bitter despair of knowing it's only platonic, the desperate hope of maybe Fu Xu might like him a little and then the crashing down of reality. It's an emotional rollercoaster but at the same time Fu Xu is clearly being pulled closer.The bulk of the novel is their interactions during the film. I did like that it wasn't one of those 'immersed in the film relationship and it bleeds into our real relationship' type of romance. Although their characters in the film are kinda sus, there's a decent separation between character and actor.Once they get together, I also liked how there's no big dramatic public reveal and it takes a more realistic take. They both try hard for each other even if there's some stumbles, they try and work it out. Its very sweet and the extras for provide a nice roundup.
