What’s Wrong With Seeking Death? Chapter 16 Discussion

TL;DR: the protagonist is an absolute gem and it's a comedy set in an SCP type setting, where she flips off the SCPs to piss them off out of sheer suicidal mania. All because the system said "seek death" and she misunderstood... XD

I love how this starts. So the protagonist starts with just two things going for her:

  • she has a completely broken self preservation instinct. Not an ounce of it at all, she's the kind of person to stick her hand into a fire after being told it's hot, go "ow that's hot" then stick her hand BACK into the fire again just to check, because she wasn't sure the first time. The type to get stabbed and go "oh neat knife can I keep it", rather than worry about silly things like massive blood loss?
  • She has the ability interact with (read, punch) intangible entities
No special powers beyond that to start, totally normal teenage girl strength and skills and all that

So anyways this crazy girl is told "your mission is to seek death" - referring to being the vicious supporting character/villainess role and bully the heroine, right? Lift up all her villainess death flags and all. Well, her first reaction is to go "okay" and stick a fork in a light socket, because the system told her to "seek death"... I think that moment really sets up how the rest of the story is going to go pretty beautifully. XD

I love how she's put into a horror movie setting and upon hearing the guy with genre awareness list off all the things you DON'T do in a horror movie bcuz that makes you die first, she takes notes and then immediately rushes off to do exactly everything he told her not to do. And her instant implicit understanding with the dumb as rocks jock character. Dude. I died laughing.
