So... a mixed bag.Starts out with a great concept and a few well-written bits of world building and plot with enough twists to keep things interesting. Why it doesn't rate higher is the author's annoying habit of going hard into the paint when it comes to "Japanese Comedy" or whatever it is that he's thinking that Nipponese Otaku will find amusing, like the whole "karoshi" or "death by overwork" thing that's big in GLORIOUS NIPPON, the weird "power reversal" thing where some ostensibly overpowered MC gets easily bullied by annoying small fry that should easily get Minecrafted by the MC, the existence of side-characters that only function to deliver some sort of half-baked manzai dialogue, and whatever else the author thinks is his "subtle" way of critiquing the failures of Nipponese society at large.Vast swaths of what could have been entertaining story arcs are ruined by the author giving up good storytelling for the sake of shoe-horning in his half-baked and ill-fitting "Japanese Comedy" into a plot that never needed it. Maybe it's amusing to him, but any editor half-worth their salary would have smacked him upside his shiny dome and attempted to beat into him the concept that sometimes, less is more-- either until the author finally got it or he expired from blood loss and internal injuries. If you're able to either tolerate the author's many failings or perhaps just filter them out you may have a chance at piecing together a somewhat decent story out of this often messy jumble of ideas, but if you're hoping for some easy snack reading, this isn't quite it.I understand that there are TWO manga adaptations currently running for this work, and so far they've kept the author's excessive "Japanese Comedy" to a minimum, so perhaps either the mangaka are using their discretion in favor of good storytelling, or they're adapting from the light novel which has a competent editor reigning in the author.
