Why are the Protagonist Gong and Shou Fighting Because of Me? Chapter 22 Discussion

usually I dont review midway for something I like. I enjoy reviewing the story I like once it ends. But.. I have lots of feelings about this and I don't wanna rush through reading this. My heart can't take it.

First of all, as a BL, I LOVE THIS A LOT. The characters are funny, the premise is fresh, and they played their pacing quite well.

BUT GODDAMN I DO NOT EXPECT the deeply entwined cultural and social commentary in this that the author mixed really well with the cute BL stuff.

I need a second. All the seconds.

As someone who was born a woman, I can't help but constantly gripping on to the protagonist's shoulder and weep: “OH GOD YOU GET MEEE, YOU GET ME SO MUCHHH, THESE THINGS ACTUALLY SUCKS RIGHT? I WASNT CRAZY”

But the point they made really meshes well with the world building and the plot, so it doesn't feel like the author's screaming at you with a megaphone. I tried to take away the “moral messaging” to see if this is superficial for the plot, but no. Interestingly, the plot doesn't work without the message.

So, yeah, this is a good story to read, but if you need complete escapism from this cold, cruel world, maybe skip this one.
