I'm a bit burned out on stories which have an older woman in a child's body, but in this one, she has the memories of her past life (many written down, others as impressions of what will happen) to guide her, but she's experiencing growing up, just like she did before. She does use this cheat to help her in school, since she wasn't a good student in the past. That amuses me as a person who struggled to stay near the top of my classes but was always just a few points shy.The author's choices in this story make it more compelling and give a feeling of the ups and downs of growing up in 90's China. There's a feeling of the main character's and the author's nostalgia overlapping and enhancing the difficult development of the romantic relationship at the heart of the story. We also get to see other character's points of view, which vary so sharply sometimes based on their personal experiences that the reader has to pause and think on it. Good stuff.
