After Being Transported into a Book, I Adopted the Villain Chapter 63 Discussion

This novel really surprised me. Up until chapter 25 I thought I knew how the characters personalities would be and how the story would progress, and I was already saddened, because although it was still good, I thought the middle and the end would follow cliches that I hate. But, the story took a very interesting turn, and my expectations were, thankfully, not met at all. This story has it's problems, but it's far more enjoyable than I predicted and what I believe most people that only read the beginning think.

1- The pacing was good, the story was interesting, and the descriptions were not too long, but very detailed and well done. The drama scenes kept me on edge and I couldn't figure out how the conflicts would resolve, so it was always a surprise. Some authors write twists to surprise the reader, but cant handle the development well after that; this was not the case, so kudos

2- Good translation

3- Characters were consistent. I'll admit that these weren't the most original or well developed i've ever seen, but there was a decent level of characterization, and their personalities are consistent throughout the whole story

4- MC isn't as dumb as reviews say. Reading that discouraged me from reading for a long time, and honestly I don't love him either but he's just a guy. He decides to treat a child with care, and in the beginning he was a bit too soft on ML, and I was like ugh this is gonna continue, but when he needs to scold him he does, doesnt get strung around by ML acting cute after he gets to know him and realizes he does this and talks to him about why he was wrong in a very healthy way. I think ppl are mad because at one point he got super pissed at something ML did and apologized after, and people are like "aaa he's so dumb he didnt see the ML's scheme Spoiler

of standing in the snow to gain his sympathy

[collapse], but if you read it he was touched by that, but decided to apologize bc he, as an adult, should have kept his calm, and realized that a traumatized child wouldn't completely change his bad behavior in 3 months of knowing him. Edit: in light of recent events, I still agree if what I said before, but jesus christ in c.62 he's wronged in all possible ways and is just like.. "woe is me" like bit*h weres ur attitude

5- ML doesn't suck as I expected. This is not my first time at the rodeo so I was expecting a yandere, crazy and antisocial ML top, and which I hate because honestly is lazy writing. ML is still a bit antisocial, and has bad qualities like being possessive and calculating, but he is a more real take on that type of person. He's more reasonable (doesn't get pissed off for no reason if MC is not looking at him at all times), and not straight up cold blooded Spoiler

as seen that when he heard the girl was getting bullied bc she associated with him, he felt bad before he found out that it was a whole scheme (I'm not gonna explain it bc its a long story)

[collapse]. He has layers, and I still dont like him but he's bearable

PS: the premise " MC raises ML, afraid that ML will come after him later. They fall in love". At a glance, you can see that it is a very risky story to pull off; it could very easily become problematic. In those historical cultivation novels, it generally works because shizun- shidi dynamic is more distant than a parent- son relationship, so it doesn't feel as weird when they develop feeling for each other, and because they can pull some sh*t like " oh ML got stuck in a hell or something so now 5 years have passed, and they reunite at a more appropriate age". But, since this story takes place in a realistic, modern setting, it's got none of these excuses. The author made MC (early 20's) adopt ML when he was 10, he literally raised him as an adoptive parent... from a young age... and then at some point he develops romantic feelings for the him... I mean...i usually dislike the idea of "MC is a straight man until ML makes a move and he gives in" but honestly I was kinda hoping for this to happen because it's much weirder for MC to develop feelings for the a child he saw grow up unprompted. Spoiler

And when they get together MC is in his late 20's and ML is 16 like dudeee it's already bad enough as it is, why do this to yourself author ? would it hurt to make him 18???

[collapse]

i will turn a blind eye and continue reading because it hasn't irked me to the point of dropping it, but like

This is well written enough that I think if the author tried a little harder she could make this more interesting. The plot is promising, but like give the ML more good qualities, age him up a little bit more and it would really help your case: would not be as problematic, and would make the actions that don't fit a 10 yo make more sense if he was a little bit older. Give the MC more independence and motivations...
