Okay, look. An uptight religious couple in the middle of what looks like WW-II sounds so NOT hot or romantic, you'll want to 'nope' right out. It also seems like they're secretly enemies or something, maybe the start to a spy plot? BUT!The writing and translation are pretty good, the plot is steadily building while subtly sliding hints all over the place, there's hidden layers to several characters, and the world building is gradual but believable. The tension DOES evolve into some great chemistry, and the mysterious past will smother you with 'forbidden love' vibes (but in a good way). When the floodgates burst, it's intense. If future plot developments are intense as what I've seen so far, this could become one seriously quality read.I'm normally obsessed with fantasy and assumed this would be similar. It's obviously not, and some people probably rated it low because of similar reasons. Like if you wanted pie and someone gave you a 'pizza pie', you're going to feel tricked. Doesn't mean it was a bad pizza. Also surprised that I'm down bad for a priest?? Ugh, I want him.
