Begins pretty decently and is entertaining for the first few volumes. Volume 1 is basically the description in longform and after that most of the focus is on the MC and his new party which I enjoyed. I read ahead with MTL and ended up dropping at the end of volume 4 though.

As the description says, if you're looking for a revenge arc, you should look elsewhere. That said, I expected *some* justice and was disappointed. I personally also just find the hero character incredibly annoying and all over the place.

Spoiler

The hero loses to the MC in a mock battle but is never really punished for mistreating the MC or kicking him out. From skimming through later volumes, it looks like the author tries to redeem the hero with some self-pity chapters where he regrets his actions. Then, starting volume 10, there are entire volumes from the hero's perspective. I don't think it works very well given how cartoonishly bad the hero was early on--it's just impossible for me to empathize with the character at all. The only person that ever really gets punished for mistreating the MC is a liason (a super minor character you forget even exists) that embezzled the MC's wages--everybody else gets off pretty much scot-free. Also, the childhood friend stays with the hero party despite everything, and as far as I can tell, she stays for the remainder of the series.
