After Marrying a Vegetative Princess, I Went Crazy With Joy! Chapter 83 Discussion

Pretty meh overall.

The setting is a transmigrated modern MC with a system that has a tricky activation condition in ancient times. Fine, nothing great, but nothing bad, either. However, the execution is pretty lackluster.

To be fair, the story was good at first, when the wife was in a vegetative state. The MC had to put some effort to earn the points, his position was somewhat precarious, and it was nice to read about the wife's growing feelings (it was kind of cute). But then it went downhill after she woke up.

This is basically a wish fulfillment story where the MC doesn't struggle to do anything (like damn, even if he gets things too easily, he should at least get some missions with rewards instead of just accruing points by touching the eponymous princess; at this point it just feels like one of those older Japanese village/territory management webnovels where the MC did very important things like growing rice and creating soy sauce and being a pushover for the obnoxious love interests, just with an MC who isn't a pushover). Things just fall into his lap. Also, the MC tries hard not to have to do anything (which is understandable, but takes away any tension and makes the story boring). Finally, it feels really weird when he brings modern foods out.

Also, he's a hypocrite that says "money and power don't interest me" in one moment but the next he's happy to now possess his wife's wealth and grumbles about emperor not returning her money.

The wife is just an ornament if you ask me. At least so far. It's nice that she's submissive and all that, but it is overdone and takes away any and all personality from her. I know it's ancient times and all that, but there are plenty of web novels with a Chinese ancient times setting that have female characters with more prominent personality. Ironically, she had the most personality when she was in a vegetative state and we could only read about her thoughts and feelings. She had all those desires to do this and that with the MC, but then when she woke up, she suddenly became almost fully passive, and the focus was more on MC, and the author quickly forgot about all those things she wanted to do. Big screwup. This is where this novel went downhill fast.

The other characters, well, are there, but it's hard to say much about them. They're neither deep nor completely shallow. I suppose it may get better since I only read 83 chapters.

Well, maybe it gets better later overall, but now it's boring, and has been for at least two, three dozen chapters - basically ever since the waifu woke up.
