It was a keep your brains outside novel till the fighting started. After that it reads like the plot was written by a 6 year old after getting opinions from a teen with barely a surface level understanding of history and ancient chinese diplomacy.Spoiler
Yes the emperor who has to see all kinds of schadenfreude in his court is enamored by a few flowery words of the enemy envoy and gave away a princess in marriage. Even I as a non-chinese can see the faults in that argument and the author thought it was so nice for the MC to point out they aren't really humbled by the Tang dynasty.
Yes, everybody likes to prop up other countries at the expense of their own. SMH
