I’ve been re-reading some novels from my Finished list and this is probably my favorite so far. A very vivid mix of harem politics, court politics and simple family life. I especially liked how the author shows the backstory behind the different main characters - generals, clan heads, concubines, royalty - as they navigate this complex world. Some people are s*upid no matter how much they get in life and some characters learn to let their light shine. A really good story.
