It is a great novel when it wants to be. I may just be a sucker for schemes and political intrigue, but I love that it isn't your usual "constant battle" slop. Sure, there is combat, but it isn't overplayed. The MC doesn't seem to be gunning to supplant the game protagonist either which is nice, rather just co-existing. But to circle back to my first sentence, it can get bad when the author decides its time for the "funny" "jokes." The largest issue is the comedy. It's terrible. Like very bad. The author is a rare Korean super weeb who had his sense of comedy poisoned by 2000s romcom anime slop. It is a pain to get through. One moment you have this fun game of the MC manipulating something to his advantage and then everyone promptly loses all but one of their brain cells for the slapstick "funny" time. It has severe tonal whiplash.
