It's good, pretty good. Quality is consistent, some notes/flavors and themes are just done to death, but it's a generally enjoyable read.I think our protag has the x machina style problem, he's not overpowered, but he's definitely gone beyond reasonable suspension of disbelief.The troubles with it in my mind, is it feels like its 100% formula, and a math equation of a story. You go from x to y to z, and it feels routine. Emotional beats feel telegraphed and somewhat forced for what the story is.Its a good read, a time burner, but not quality enough to feel like it's trying to rise above it, and do something special.I don't find "misunderstood" as a genre trope to be a strong pull here. It feels like the curtain hiding the wizard of OZ... it gets in the way of knowing the characters.
