The story and the characters are pretty average. There aren't any particular standouts or even any trait that makes any character memorable. They are just there. Doesn't help with how many characters the author keeps on introducing. Was reading from chapter 1 to chapter 174 in one go, so I remember most of the characters but if I was waiting a day for each chapter, I doubt I would remember even half of them. The main character itself is pretty bland. The story line also seems to be a bit hit and miss. There are some interesting concepts, but it feels like they aren't fully explored. Also doesn't help with how much exposition there is. A lot of the times you just want the author to get to the point. The story isn't slice of life, but rather more of a dark fantasy. The world is heading to towards warfare with a lot of strong characters who are very morally ambiguous. The author doesn't get much into it but from the tidbits you can get an idea of how much life or values are valued in that world. The summary mentions how much the MC likes planting trees, and the story does mention that but it is not the focus.Spoiler
MC, early on, starts focusing on combining nature and death into one domain (called balance).
[collapse]The main issue though, is the translation. Personally, I don't mind reading machine translation, but that is not the biggest issue. The translation is plagued with missing paragraphs. Initially I thought that story just keeps on jumping but after reading on other sites, I realized its just the translation. Also the "next chapter" button on the translator site is broken. Doesn't work half the time. Also, the machine translation is somehow worse than the ones you can find on famous machine translation sites. 90% of the time, the female character name defaults to Peggy (it is not present in other sites for the same novel) and even the male character names keeps on changing (not David being called Dave, but rather David, Steve and John all getting their names interchanged randomly (not consistent per scene either) and half the time defaulting to say, "Richard"). Would honestly recommend just going to a machine translation site to read this novel. You will get less headaches.
