A delightful, heartwarming, mostly feel good and slice-of-life novel with a light dose of angst (much less than Saye). It's a friends-to-lovers romance with a natural build-up and transition (with some understandable gay panic, in relation to coming-out etc.) halfway through the story where the friendship part doesn't feel subpar to them being a couple - it's a wonderful friendship and they're also a great couple.

Like in her other novels, Wu Zhe illuminates some parent-child issues in contemporary China - in this case, extreme favouritism and control urges, children being raised by the grandparents suddenly being subject to extremely strict and authoritarian parenting to "make up for" years of laxness, and the woes of being a child genius. But Lin Wuyu and Ding Ji aren't archetypes/stereotypes, victims of their circumstances but instead captivating, intriguing characters who've risen above and made the most of what they've been handed. It's great to get to know them and see more and more shades of their personalities appear XD

The MissEvan/猫耳FM audio drama is wonderful and highly recommendable! The BGM is exquisite and the voice actors really make the great banter and also scenes of intimacy come alive.
