Spirit Realm Walker is a pretty good Modern Day progression fantasy that sends the main character off into missions in the spirit realm, as well as development on earth. Its kind of like 48 hours a day / The Devil’s Cage (I've heard this genre described as the "Terror infinity" genre). The main thing that stands out from this genre is that the developments on earth are actually more interesting and dangerous than the missions. The power system is a simplified version of Lord of mysteries, with different classes and ranks within the classes. So the earth is filled with danger, and strong and powerful walkers.Good things about it:
- Hoxionia is a great translator. In the age of AI mtl garbage, having a consistent translation is nice.
- The author is pretty funny. He pushes the bounds with a lot of innuendos, it's always refreshing to see an author push the limits of what the censors will allow. It's rare to see criticism that could easily be applied to the justice system in China slip past and be so open
- The villains are believable, no generic "rich young masters bad, or church bad, or good guys are bad". Everyone has their motivations and faults, even the heroes.
- Good use of phones, forums, as well as good use of everything, from the time in the spirit realm and the time in the earth. I haven't seen much filler so far.
- Protagonist is strong, but doesn't trivialize everything from being ridiculously op.
- Overall a fun novel and the author has fun with it. Enjoy!
