A good story, although the MC is too kind for his own good. It incorporates a lot of mythologies into a new one, and I love the world building. The first volume can be frustrating but the MC's best friend isn't his lover and neither is she the Hero's lover, she only idealizes the concept of hero. A fan girl (and she doesn't realize her love for MC, in fact it is possible that she is much more strict to him due to her feelings and often tell girls bad thing about him so that he isn't taken away). The MC isn't a coward and neither is a killer. He is a normal boy with his own problem. He was just summoned and doesn't have any difficulty to adapt due to his battle prowess. In modern society, you don't kill criminal, you arrest them and he has his own values. It's not a Chinese novel with hypocritical MC that kills anyone that disagree with you, including their family, servants, etc. In addition, he is mainly merciful to those with sentience, but will still kill monsters and beasts. He also made his mind to eliminate some of his enemies later. He just doesn't want to kill innocents (humans) because he is on the opposite side, which as long as he has the power to manage it without killing, isn't a bad decision as a human being, although not the easiest solution. His Duty is to protect the Demon King and the land of Nargol. As such, if he can stop any invasion, all is good. He won't attack humans or other species, and neither is he power hungry. (Later, Kuna will create a faction for him, so even if he doesn't act himself, his military power will increase). The only people he won't kill is the Hero party, because (of "plot", of course) of his childhood friend and value, they are fellow Japanese and were tricked by the Goddess (for him anyway). He doesn't seem to understand how bad they are or how people (human beings) can be misanthropist and racist with other races, as well as selfish and greedy. But even these bad points have reason in the lore or would be developed later. There is also some character development in this story, albeit it is very light. In the end, a lot of people complain about the MC personality or about some type of NTR but there isn't any of them that happens to the MC. He will also have his Harem and get laid. His personality is a bit too humble and innocent, and he lacks a bit of selfishness and greed, but he isn't totally obvious (except in love) and neither is he an advocate of justice. In truth, despite being a "dark knight", he acts as a gentleman and a knight (not history, but the stereotype). He avoids violence if possible, but doesn't waver. His mentality is different from people in western civilization, but is quite typical in Japan. If you love Japanese light novels, his personality isn't bad.
