The MC has amnesia and has his powers mega-gimped as a result. The main deus ex-machina is that whenever things get really dire, he suddenly remembers something of his past and can then start using another new super-power, out of nowhere. (His super powers don't even make sense in the normal scheme of things on his world, but his amnesia is supposed to make up for this and create 'mystery').
This makes the tension of his predicaments super annoying, since you know that no matter how dire things get, he will get some new super power at the last minute anyway, so the tension is super fake, and the subsequent win is basically unearned (dumbass 'hero' gets in trouble, but gets saved by perfect-timing-new-power, again and again and again).
The MC and his weak side-kicks are stuck on an island full of monsters, where the island even teleports them randomly from time to time. It is yet another example of how they have no agency. Fleeing from monsters without hope of success? No problem: teleport at the last possible second! Successfully starting to get a handle on your section of the island? Ha! That's boring, we need the MC to constantly be victimized, so quickly teleport into a sandstorm and separate everyone, destroying all accumulated progress!!!
Constantly you'll have the MC and his fiancee telling each other "Go! Leave me! Save yourself!", only to have the other answer "No! I will stand by you!". It is lame from the very start since they have no real reason to go that far for each other (one has near-total amnesia, the other is just a money/power-grubbing merchant, both are products of a scummy Xianxia world), so when it gets repeated every 5 (short if you exclude internal monologues) chapters it just continues to sound ultra fake.
[collapse]All-in-all, even though it is better than most CN novels (and far better than most JP novels), I found it extremely annoying.
