This is a really well-written detective novel that really evokes the spirit of Hong Kong police dramas. I used to love watching Forensic Heroes and this really brought the nostalgia back.Yi Jiayi is a fantastic female lead. She has courage, empathy and perseverance in spades and seeing her transformation from a happy-go-lucky clerk to a detective steeped in justice and empathy is so satisfying. Her powers are the trigger but it's her own sense of justice that pushes her to learn actual police techniques to best use her power and reverse engineer lawful evidence. There are also cases where she can't actually see the killer's face so the answer isn't always clear to her either.I also enjoy how well-written everyone is. Even if there's jealousy or resentment, it never boils over to ridiculous face slapping. Once she proves her worth, people naturally start to respect her. These aren't canon fodder, they're people who feel normal emotions both positive and negative. Her family + found family are all very nice to read about. They're all well rounded and get their own bits of screen time. They add a lot of warmth to the story.Romance is a massive slow burn but there's so much mutual respect and genuine friendship it's still nice to read their interactions. I haven't read to the actual romance 3/4 in although they're both aware of their own feelings. Also the funniest modern backword compatibility I've ever read Spoiler
the superiors are really impressed by her Microsoft word and formatting skills and ask her to give a lecture on writing a proper report.
