The author bases his entire story on Chinese culture and then puts down Chinese people every chance he can get. Isn't that like slapping the author's own face since he's ripping his entire writing from Chinese source material?
The author throws around racist slurs every 10 chapters or so. Wtf? It's so unnecessary and the author just looks like a moron every time. It's just next-level unnecessary hate.
More generally, I like transported to another world novels but I'm tired of these nationalist-my-culture-is-superior Korean/Chinese/Japanese inserts across a lot of the NU novels. So many are guilty of it and I have qualms with all of them.
All these authors need to get off of their high horses and just treat cultures and other groups with respect. Idk why so many of these authors have these cultural superiority complexes. I get Korean<>Chinese<>Japanese relations are subpar given the history, but seriously holy shit, it's 2024.
[collapse]For the actual story:It's a lighthearted easy story to skim. I wrote skim because there are long exposes of background information that are skippable. I usually skip a section or two every chapter. For the positives, I quite like how the author portrays the main character's mental state as it changes over time. I think it adds a nice layer to character growth. The pacing of the novel is quite good too. Nothing boring, just action packed.Btw, it's in the tags, but there are quite a lot of depictions of gore. Just a heads up. Like a lot...Lastly, I know it's not the novel itself, but I think the translator has done a really good job.
