To be frank, 5 stars is a generous round up but I did enjoy the novel so.

This novel is a shuangwen or smooth-sailing type novel but what helps lessen the boredom typical of the genre is that it's also comedic and doesn't quite take itself too seriously.

Qiong Ren, our popular only amongst the dead idol, finds himself in dramatic situations which end wackily. He technically face slaps but in ways that feel closer to a comedy skit lol. In general, the first half/two-thirds of the novel are more comedic in tone. The last part ties up loose ends and the overarching plot with even a nice climax.

Qiong Ren is a genuinely nice and very talented idol. He's also very good looking and yada yada but this is also one of the few cn novels where the 'shou' is described as having tanned skin (honey coloured lol) and being praised for it. The bar is in hell (hah) but I'll take anything in a culture that equates beauty with fairness and however innocently, loves to deride darker skin.

Like our beautiful cute MC shou has darker skin and it's not insulted or changed at all. That's so rare.

Other than that, MC's superpower is probably his physical strength (??) and like this ability to be consistently good and kind.

The King of Hell, our ML is a workaholic insomniac who basically falls in love with MC at first embarassing social situation sight. He thinks he's cute and I guess that's about it lol. He's kind of weird about it in a shy way but not bad or anything. He also has several different forms all of which appeal to MC in different ways haha

Their romance is pretty cute. Despite the uhhh extreme age and power imbalance, it never feels like ML treats MC like an uwu baby much? He accompanies MC here and there but they live separate lives and only really teleports to him if MC is in emotional distress.

Spoiler

I don't get what's with the lotus uhhh kissing? Scene though, did that do it while he was a lotus?? I can't tell

Actually my favourite, probably one of the more actually serious scenes of them is Spoiler

when ML is trapped in an illusion where MC has grown old and is about to die, and ML isn't trapped by the illusion but by the future he knows is inevitable. It's bittersweet but I liked the emotional depth it added

Tldr, this novel is a lighthearted fun read to enjoy in between heavier novels. If you're feeling an entertainment novel with supernatural elements, this is worth a try at least
