A great read. Went in for passing time and getting my junk novel fix and came out bawling my eyes. I avoid negative emotions in novels, therefore most of my recent reads have been a bit low in quality, it's as if you cannot have fluff without tragedy (yes I know its true but still). This novel has emotions, has interesting side characters, my fave thropes reinvented and a main couple with a healthy, cute relationship. Though my head hurts and I thought Ill feel empty as after a huge rollercoster of emotional swings (I get to immersed when reading ugh) - I do not. They're great together, the side characters shine and it has an HE full of non greasy fluff. It hit the spot, you know?

Special mention: Cheng Ran the original MC shou is one of the best character developments I've seen lately. Or maybe he was all that from the beginning and us readers just couldn't see it, as he himself could not either. I live the complexity of his emotional journey maybe even better than our mc's.

Worth a read. Worth a reread too. It's not perfect, not even close. It's not wanting to be either. This story is like one of our mc's movies- no excuses, low in quality in some aspects but rich in expression/emotions in others. Author also seems to have a penchant for some subtlety, as some things seem to be irrelevant just to make sense later. Im glad I've read it in one go, otherwise it would have probably lost a lot of 'shine'. It's supposed to be a junk food novel, but it made me pay attention and stop and think at times. So, is it good? Or bad? 😂 Good gimmick there
