Although this novel removes many tropes common (and infuriating) in the apocalypse genre, I personally dislike the protagonist himself.

Don't get me wrong, his motivations and personality are justified (barely) by his betrayal from those he thought he could trust, but the way he goes about it is so unlikeable.

For example, Spoiler

even on the first few days, when people haven't yet succumbed to temptation and whatnot, his gloating makes me uncomfortable and is extremely hateful, causing the neighbours to despise him. Even when he himself caused it, he basically just goes 'omg human nature is so cruel I'm so glad I never let anyone in cause they'd all take everything *whiny baby noises*' like bro. In the later day (s), he loves giving people false hopes and just dropping them into the abyss below seconds later. Since we haven't really been along with him on the previous life for long enough, his revenge just seems so... unnecessarily extra.

He doesn't make an effort to save people who are 'good', like Uncle Yi, and just in general acts like a cynical beta cuck. His obsession with women even though 'oh, women only exist to distract me and are only good for s*x cause there's no other reason for me to let them in and even if I do they'll just betray me wuwuwuwu' makes me recoil in disgust. I may have oversimplified him a bit. He makes the most out of people, by exploiting their basic human needs and bragging about it.

Although he has a lot of supplies, he is extremely wasteful and arrogant, thinking that nothing can hurt him when he's inside his reinforced apartment made of steel (which I honestly don't understand how it could've possibly passed building regulations considering that he is part of an apartment complex), constantly throwing things that he 'doesn't need' away. e.g. 'Ruined food' (which he just cooked wrong cause he livestreamed it and was too focused on making his neighbours jealous)

Speaking of the apartment renovations, having a bulletproof glass wall just to look out at your suffering neighbours, and making them watch you enjoy the inside, is plain s*upid in my opinion. No matter how strong it is, the fact remains that IT IS GLASS. 'ehehe they can't break in cause I have super duper strong glass ehe' while watching them bang on it and begging for just a morsel. A single hairpin? That glass is GONE.

He is portrayed as 'ruthless' and 'cold hearted', which he is, but the sheer laser focus he has on making his 'betrayers' unhappy is ruining my enjoyment of what could've been a relatively simple survival game novel. Everyone in the apartment complex has a combined IQ of 5, with Zhou KeEr having 3, which makes even the revenge seem unsatisfying, since beating idiots in IQ says more about the person doing the beating.

He could just... I don't know... leave them to die on their own? Watching them beg and sob for help is more satisfying imo, instead of needlessly drawing aggro and wasting resources.

TLDR: love the concept, hate the execution. if you like a heartless MC with no empathy, go ahead.
