The description pretty much lays it out. Age gap relationship between an aggressive, slightly obsessive and overly mature 10 year old and a very reluctant, slightly insecure but responsible 17 year old. The imagery of spider (her) and butterfly (him) is used multiple times. Her primary motivation for starting the relationship is explained in chapter 10.This is a very 'japanese' story. Age gap relationships use to be a rather common theme in older japanese literature but as a concept it's slowly fallen out of favor as the west imposes it's cultural values on japan. It's hard to predict how a modern telling of this theme will go, but that in turn is what makes it interesting to read.
