There's a bunch of organizations within the story where many groups just collude for their own wishes, and Su Su of course ends up mixed in it. There's those that hate humans and seek revenge for mermaids. There's the mermaids who live in their own palace under the sea and just mind their own business, trading resources and have agreements with the humans. Nice humans who seek equality between the mermaids and humans. Aristocrats that use mermaids and see them as beneath humans. A small faction of joined forces of a prince and member of the ML's family that opposes the ML. Zergs, which are aliens that seek to destroy everyone on the planet and take over.
In a way from a usual standpoint, people would think the humans are the worst since they tortured so many mermaids. But technically both the mermaid haters and human haters are selfish. They both generalized entire races and assumed both side are entirely evil. They both have harmed innocents to achieve their goals. The story of ML's parents is truly tragic. Basically the mermaids that hate humans, have been carrying a belief for generations that humans are all evil and that they must take revenge by annihilating all humans. The parents would instill this belief on their children from the very beginning and basically raise them with only hatred in their hearts. Yan Bai, MC's cousin was given birth to and his parents belonged to this group so they willingly handed their baby over to the leader of the group, to raise him like a pawn.
I love Su Su's character because he really just tears down people with his words alone. Even after Yan Bai was raised by such a person and had instilled the belief, it was Su Su that pointed out the things that did not add up and how they were sacrificing more mermaids safety in order to just get revenge. How they did have a chance to get equality, wish ML's father advocating for that, but their selfishness ruined their chances and mu*dered him just for not cooperating with their plan to get rid of all humans. It was so cruel that the ML's mom, a mermaid, was a spy who deceived them, tortured and killed ML's father in front of the ML and then tried to drown the ML afterwards. The father suffered by having all of his fingers removed, his eyes taken out, his nose, and stabbed multiple times. All the while the father did not blame the mother, as he loved her so much and only pleaded with her to spare their child. The mother had so much hate ingrained into her due to her upbringing that she could no longer see reason.
I also enjoy how even when Yan Bai tried to make MC's come to their side, MC didn't care about the mermaid's suffering. The topic was irrelevant to his beliefs and life. He had lived independently as a shark and had no attachment to mermaids as he never grew up with mermaids. He only chose what he wanted to do for himself. He also has no feelings of needing to be unnecessarily kind and is just blunt about his thoughts. When he rejected someone's request to team up, he said it was because they were weaker than him and it would be no advantage to him. Which was true, and they couldn't deny the fact that they also wanted to use MC since they knew he would definitely advance their team. He's super confident that he's stronger than everyone else.
[collapse]In the beginning I thought the story would be light, along with the cover looking cute like that lol. But it seemed to be darker. It focused on starship flying a lot and MC's playing a game piloting and winning many achievements. It was super entertaining seeing MC play the games. The only con I'd have to say is:Spoilertowards the ending, we don't really get see a final battle in detail including the starship piloting MC learned. It was more-so a summary of him being successful rather than going into detail about how he defeated real Zergs. And there also was no final fight in the last round of the competition. But I'm not mad at it since it focused on MC's main priority which was saving the ML. I guess it is true that MC didn't need to show a full detailed fight since he already showed to everyone how much of a genius he was with his skills and capabilities. In the beginning of the story Su Su only wanted food. By the end of the story, Su Su only wanted his love.
I wish we got a little bit more of the sweet relationship of MC and ML. Of course their moments were sprinkled within the story, but they only really got to enjoy their relationship together at the very end due to all the dangers around them.
