How the Useless Me Became the Beloved of the Devilish Duke Knight Chapter 43 Discussion

I found the first part of the story to fall flat and felt a bit rushed. Throughout part 1 it feels like we are building up to a big reveal, and that the MC might be an unreliable narrator. However, there is not enough character development to give depth to this family who are apparently not what they seem. In part 1, the circumstances of MC are revealed and there are still missing pieces.

Spoiler

The MC is indeed an unreliable narrator due to trauma and ab*se. She describes herself as basically erasing certain memories and creating memories that are easier to digest. This is a very real and complex trauma response that feels lacking in its depiction in the story.

Also, the MC ends up sympathetic to the sister. Which is part of my issue with the lacking depth. Throughout the story the family only shows up to torment and ab*se MC, and they are essentially flat characters who are almost cartoonishly evil. If we were supposed to end up feeling sympathetic towards them, there could have been added story telling to make the family both awful yet appear as human. Also, the sister kidnaps MC and tries to have her r*ped, which felt kind of random to me and also irredeemable.

I will say that the relationship between the MC and ML is cute.
