I was looking for something lighthearted to read, something that would make me happy, so I decided to read this (without checking the tag and reading the reviews 🥲). I found it cute how the MC is crushing on the ML. I was feeling "kilig"—a term that describes the fluttery, giddy feeling you get when something is incredibly cute or romantic.I was smiling and reminiscing about how fun having crushes can be until the angst hit.Spoiler
During the entrance exam chapters, I had a bad premonition that something awful was going to happen, but I pushed myself to believe it would have a happy ending and everything would work out in the end.
But it didn't. The ML ended up in prison for killing his dad.
I'm fine with that; I had already mentally "killed" the dad and wished for his demise many times while reading the novel. But the author ended it with an open ending.
The author concluded the story with the ML no longer allowing the MC to visit him in prison, leaving the possibility that the MC will be waiting for the ML in the future.
I hate open endings with a burning passion. I was hoping for an extra chapter showing how they got together after ML was released, but there was none.
[collapse]So now, I'm bawling because why must their ending be like that?Nevertheless, it's still a good read overall. It will make you smile, relate to it most of the time, reminisce your youth (if you're old like me), and cry.Update: I just read in the translator's review that there's a sequel to this novel 👏. I changed my mind; I don't dislike the ending that much anymore 🤣.
