I'm finally complete with the series (MTL'd) and had to scrap my previous review.

All I can say is that this novel is a romantic drama. Albeit a good one, but one that will make you want to pull your hair out. The only way I was able to get through it was because I was able to binge read through it. The frustration this novel gave me... One commentor on ridi said "this cured my low blood pressure but now I need a cure for my high blood pressure."

Despite that, I still think this was a great novel. Even with the drama, both leads own up to the fact that their angst was, in part, a result of their own decision making: MC for being too afraid to just tell the truth and ML for being a shitty human being 😒. And that sort of maturity and introspection was a breath of fresh air.

Some spoilers regarding the frustration--read through the tags and take heed:

Spoiler

The misunderstanding/love triangle/jealousy is so freaking strong in this novel. It takes up a good amount of drama.

The triangle is around MC-ML-Fake MC (person who took MC's identity). I'll liken it to how tr*shta was terrible but it was really Sovieshu's fault. I felt like this love triangle was watered-down remarried empress.

And as a result, the second-ML-syndrome is so real. Most of the comments on ridi are all about dumping the ML and just eloping with 2ndML or the villain

For those who want super super spoilers:

ML finds out MC is his ex-wife at ch116. He suspected it earlier but ch116 is when he says it out loud to MC.

The author does dish the angst back to the ML and it's almost enough, but unfortunately, there's not enough groveling for me to forgive the pain he gave MC. 😤

I can see how others can feel otherwise, but I'd like to remind people that ML was cruel to the MC during the curse. Abusive mentally and physically and there was no excuse for it, especially since all their other friends were so nice. I wish ML suffered a little more, but MC is a bigger person than me and unfortunately it makes sense.

Given the setting, I anticipated some adventure but it is solely focused on the relationship between MC and ML and also the people around them. Dungeon time isn't really detailed unless it's important to the relationship progression.

It's got a great cast of characters that build up the world around them and provide a lot of character foil and characterization to our leads. Throughout the novel we're also given tidbits to the fairytale romance MC and ML had.

But where this novel truly shines happens towards the end. How much does one person really influence those around them? It asks the question, if you take away the healer of trauma how would a person (a young adolescent) really turn out?

We see that in the personality change of those who were very young when they met MC (ML was 14 when they met and 2nd ML was ~11) vs those who were already mature when they met MC. MC has a huge presence in ML and 2ML's life since they ended up basically growing up together. When MC is taken away, a huge childhood developmental piece in ML and 2nd ML goes away too.

I think keeping that in mind changes the novel a bit and will help you hold on to the end.

MC is a beautiful person and I stuck around because I wanted to see him be happy.

Spoiler

The way loves is just beautiful and the way he loves the ML is just so heartbreaking mostly because that's exactly how someone in love would respond in a one-sided relationship

Even when he was at his breaking point he just responds with "I'm tired". But he still doesn't allow ML to just waltz back into his life like the ab*se didn't happen.

Especially at the last chapter where he says how he wanted ML to hurt as much as he did but a bigger part of him never wants to be the cause of his grief. I think we've all been there.

This sequel to the 5 times rejected gamma and the lycan king has a strong plot with great character development.    Lucy and Xander are mated and happy, but the fear of a new mind control chemical leads to an unlikely alliance between the lycan Kingdom,  the vampire kingdom, and the Royal rogues.
