I’ll be real, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read this because I didn’t love this author’s QT work, but boy am I glad I gave it a chance. Our MC is an incredibly sincere and intelligent man who lacks EQ (omg does he lack this). But he’s so cute and funny that you’ll love all the ways he misses out on emotional cues. There is a definite element of OP-ness (outside of the system cheats), but it doesn’t feel overdone. You do wonder at how everyone accepts that this formally fat and pampered heir becomes a badass fighter, but I found it easy to gloss over because I just liked the story so much. MC’s relationship with everyone in the story- especially the ML and the system- is so f*cking cute. I love how everyone just acknowledges that it’s not rational but in the face of his sincerity, you can’t help but love him.And the ML!!!! In a sea of cardboard cutout possessive gongs, he stands out. He slowly falls for the MC because of who the MC is as a person. He has a lot of trust issues but it was so wonderful to see him slowly open up to the MC. Also he understands the concept of consent, not only in bed, but also in life. Unlike other novels, he doesn’t just unilaterally fix everting or interfere in the MC’s business, he waits for the MC to ask or offers help. Also he’s not some crazed Yandere who wants to isolate the MC, their devotion is equal and he respects that MC has aspirations and goals that he won’t block. The plot is also amazing. One thing I liked about the QT novel by this author was the fact that the MC realized that many of the stories had unreliable narrators... and this was brought back here. I love that even though MC has some information, the plot is a lot messier and unpredictable than what he knows. I also love that we get to switch between the MC and ML’s stories. One is more action while the other is is more mystery and drama, but the fact that you have two interesting plot lines helps keep the story fresh. The side characters, including the brothers mentioned in the summary (and what a misleading summary that was), were all really fun and fleshed out. Honestly, outside of plot, I didn’t really care about the brothers, I much prefer all the fun side characters that surround the MC and ML.oh, and the system... ahhhh supportive and so cute.I look forward to reading the rest, as my only complaint is that it’s not fully translated!
