This went about as well as expected. And for a naive moment, I thought Abdul had a chance to be properly revived, to reunite with the crew. Unfortunately, Sherry was eating flesh to regain her own and she tore through Polnareff’s neck, only after he gave a sincere smile. A smile that, I think, denoted warmth in the fleeting moment he thought she was truly back with her memories as evidence. It was one of those panels that speaks so much emotion in one small moment. Polnareff is the star of so much and he’s giving us some heartfelt horror too. Before he could undo his mistake, Abdul appeared, notifying him that all three wishes are used up.
Instantly I think of hamon and Bruford. Through Jonathan fighting Bruford, he awakened his humanity. The hamon activated his ability to feel pain and he let go of his malice, choosing to die rather than fight, and giving Jonathan his luck and pluck. Therefore, I instantly wanted Joseph over here to fight with hamon. And overall, this is how Phantom Blood's Tarkus and Bruford should have been in my opinion, not mythical knights unbeknownst to us, but people we knew. That said, this is Jojo and I have to wonder if the same set piece would occur twice. I can’t imagine the dead loved ones would not regain any of their humanity for a bittersweet moment; but I doubt it’d be the exact same. So, we should also look at Cameo’s words, that its ability is to grant wishes from deep in one’s heart. Perhaps that can be used against it in some way. Also, I kind of imagine the first wish to come into play somewhere, perhaps using the sword that was supplied with the buried treasure.
